My name is Chris Elkjar and I’m a 28 year old web and graphic designer currently based out of the Windsor / Detroit area. I suppose I could describe myself as an art director, or a web architect, or a front-end designer or a half dozen other titles but when it comes down to it I just like to create. Be it a simple, elegant business card or a complex and intricate web application the process of creating has always interested me. My goal is always to create something that will serve its purpose and also look really, really good while doing it. I love reading, music, vinyl records, playing guitar and fiddling with music equipment.
Here’s some self indulgent information about myself that is really just a thinly veiled illustration of my content layout abilities. Enjoy!
The early days of the internet, being a less than socially gifted child this was the perfect time for me to begin my foray into web design and the internet in general. I enrolled in a basic HTML course in middle school and quickly began building the greatest website proclaming my love for the video game Quake that the world had ever seen. Sadly this masterpiece was lost in the great geocities purge.
After a few years experimenting with a rapid series of terrible jobs in and around the Vancouver area I packed up and moved my camp out to Detroit. Working a few other jobs (including some time spent in the warehouse of a teddy bear factory) eventually I landed in the Windsor area with a renewed interest in web and graphic design as a possible career.
Real job? Whoa. In 2006 I managed to land myself a position as a production designer for a Windsor, Ontario based email marketing company. I spent the next 2 years designing so many templates for college sports teams that to this day I manage to impress friends with my immense (and useless) knowledge of college sports team logos.
With my patience for college sports dwindling. I made the move back into freelance work. This lasted about 2 weeks.
During my foray into freelance work and coinciding with my realization that the stress of not having a steady pay check would eventually drive me mad, I was offered a position as creative director at Windsor, Ontario based company Spry Agency. I continue to work with them while also pursuing various personal projects and select freelance jobs. If you have a project and you’d like to collaborate, please get in touch!
